Title: The Oceans They Did Rise
Author:
disapparater
Prompt: #99
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Word Count: ~18,000

Disclaimer: Harry Potter characters are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No profit is being made, and no copyright infringement is intended.
Notes: I had a lot of fun writing this, but I'll be honest, most of the fun was the research. I think every non-magical place mentioned here is or was a real place. Thank you
themightyflynn for the simple and inspiring prompt. Thank you #1 for being there at every stage and giving thoughtful, excellent advice despite your own hectic schedule. Thank you #2 for tsking at my 'meter's and saving me from myself by favouring a poetic title. [x]
Summary: Finding post-war life more difficult than he'd imagined, Harry travels halfway around the world to find some peace. He also finds Malfoy, art, adventure, the ocean, and himself. (Not necessarily in that order.)

So realistic how they slowly fell in love.
I adored each and every word the ending was sweet and very hopeful.
Thank you!

I love how they were in New Zealand, how free and honest. It was as if they left a huge weight back home and they were willing to just be whoever they wanted, actually, that's what the story was about. About who they wanted to be without any expectations.
I love their growing friendship, the way they gave each other a change, how it came almost naturally for them. :)
I love the routine they had, all those amazing places Draco showed him. I did feel Draco was trying to prove a point, but he seemed so happy and carefree, even when he was being a bit reckless, I couldn't help but smile along with Harry. I did love that Harry asked him to be more careful, to make better choices, not just different choices.
I love that Draco was honest and admitted it was hard for him, the idea of being with Harry, but I think they also make each other brave, and they will make each other happy, back home, too, and it seems they are ready. :D Completely lovely, mystery author! Thank you. <33

This is so beautiful! I loved how carefree and young Draco is in this! This is the type of Draco I can really see someone like Harry falling hopelessly in love with.
And that ending! I honestly thought you were gong to give it a cruddy ending, but this is just perfect. It's realistic and grounding compared to how flighty they had been, and also not overly sweet, which is a nice balance. Thank you, MA!

and i adore all the details you provided- i had to check some of them but as you were able to put names in and i saw the locations - thank you internet- and just awesome!
but then there is also the way you describe them and the way where there is truth and reality and where is hope and dream and a life that is easy!
this is just so good
i especially liked the part where harry told draco that he is reckless and that that was not what good decisions were about
but also the climbing scene and the beginning of course it dragged me right in!
thanks a lot for this awesome story MA you did a absolutely stunning work!

Also, I'm particularly fond of their conversation of what Harry could be (the rentboy comment lol!!!!) because I love the self-awareness of it all, and it makes me smile!
Thank you, MA, for such a wonderful, perfect read!
