Summary: Hermione would just like to curl up with a book on a rainy day, while Pansy wants to go walking — together — in the rain.

Everything was just how Hermione enjoyed it to be. The fire was crackling quietly, the lights were dim, but bright enough that she could see the pages of her book that rest on her lap, and a cup of tea rest on the side table beside her. The house was quiet. Pansy had gone out earlier in the day to have lunch with Blaise, but that had been bordering on three hours ago now. Hermione didn’t worry though; Pansy and Blaise going to lunch normally ended with the two of them perusing the shops for new clothes. Hermione didn’t mind at all that she was staying at home.

Their cat, Marlon, padded into the room and gracefully leapt up to settle himself on the arm on the armchair that Hermione was currently sat on. She smiled and scratched behind the old cat’s ear. She’d thought it would be difficult moving on to another pet after Crookshanks had passed six years previous. But four years back, when she had asked Pansy to move in with her, the other witch had agreed only on the terms that her beloved cat could move in too. And so came Marlon, fur as dark as his owner’s hair, a kink in the end of his tail, and with a small chunk out of the tip of his left ear from when he’d gotten into a fight with an older cat when he was only a kitten. If she had believed in superstitions, then she would have been surprised at how lovely and affectionate the black cat turned out to be; just as much as she’d been surprised to find out how affectionate Pansy had become the longer they were in a relationship together.

Hermione let out a soft sigh and lifted her eyes from the pages of her newest novel and looked around the room. She was starting to miss Pansy. A look out of the window made her frown. "Still raining…" She murmured. It hadn’t stopped raining since the night before, and it was doing awful things to her general mood and motivation. Even though she was thoroughly enjoying being curled up on the armchair with her book, tea, and cat, she would have much preferred to be resting in bed with Pansy, listening to the rain. She could practically feel the ghost of Pansy’s fingers running up and down her spine as they always did whenever they were laying down together. It was a sure-fire way to calm Hermione and help her relax — something she wasn’t very good at doing on her own.

Her eyes drifted back to her book and she delved back into the life of the heroine she’d come to care so fondly for, and without any acknowledgement of the time, the minutes ticked by, passing into another hour with Pansy gone. When the sound of a key entering the flat door jolted Hermione to sit up straighter, it couldn’t have come at a better time, as she’d been reading the same sentence over and over again for the past five minutes. The door swung open and the first things she saw were several large bags — from expensive looking shops from what she could see — before Pansy followed, wearing a hat she hadn’t had on when she had left that morning.

"I see that you and Blaise had fun," Hermione smiled with a slight roll of her eyes. She would have been worried if Pansy had come home without a new purchase; it would have been a telltale sign that something was wrong.

"Just a tad," Pansy responded and walked over to the couch to place the bags upon the cushions. Hermione uncurled her legs and stood up from the armchair and crossed the space to give her girlfriend a peck on the lips.

"What did you get?" Hermione asked, looking at the haul. It didn’t really hold much intrigue or interest to her, but she always gave Pansy the time of day to show everything she would buy each time she went to the shops. Pansy knew that it didn’t pique Hermione’s interest too, but appreciated the gesture nonetheless, and always paid her the same courtesy whenever she would return home from the bookstore with several new novels or textbooks, listening to her explain the books and her reasoning for buying them.

"A few dresses," Pansy pointed at the largest bag, "Shoes," another bag… "Tops," another… "This hat," she pointed to the hat atop her head, "And that…" She pointed to a smaller bag. "That is for later tonight," she said with a smirk.

Hermione’s smile grew and she leaned forward to give her a kiss again. "You’re freezing," she murmured and kissed Pansy’s cheek which was flushed from being outside, and cold beneath her lips.

"And soon you will be too," Pansy smiled and took the hat off her head and rest it down next to the rest of her bags. She didn’t give her girlfriend the time to add a question in accompaniment with the confused look on her face. "We’re going to go outside and walk. I don’t know where, but we are."

Hermione arched a brow and looked over her shoulder out the window where rain was still beating steadily against it. "You want us to go out in that? When it’s so warm in here?" She asked, and sighed when Pansy nodded. "I’ve got my slippers on," she made an excuse.

"Your shoes are by the door."

"My hair will grow ten times bigger than it is when it dries."

"You can wear my new hat."

"But… I’m almost finished my book…"

"And it will be waiting here for you when you get back from walking with me through the rain," Pansy rolled her eyes and then reached down and took Hermione’s hands in hers. "Don’t make me say it," she drawled.

The corner of Hermione’s lips quirked up. She didn’t really see the point of walking around in the rain, especially when the fire and her book were inviting her back to the armchair to snuggle up, but what Pansy would say, and the way she said it, always made her change her mind.

Her lack of answer made Pansy sigh, but smile. "Please?" She asked, and moved her hands to Hermione’s hips, smoothing them up her sides. When Hermione didn’t answer, she leaned closer and pressed her lips to her jawline. "Pretty please?"

Hermione’s lips parted from the small, gentle kisses being peppered down her neck then, and she gave in. "Only if the mystery bag doesn’t wait until tonight. You can show me what’s in it when we get home."

"I would have done so even if it wasn’t an ultimatum," Pansy smirked when she pulled away and walked back to the front door that she’d just walked through moments before.

**********

The rain couldn’t have been any heavier as they stepped outside of their apartment building. Hermione stayed in the alcove at the front door, her brows furrowed as she looked at the rain bouncing off the road and footpath. "Pansy it’s freezing out here," she said and tried to turn to go back inside, but she was grabbed by the wrist and pulled out from under the shelter.

"Get over it, Granger," Pansy grinned and made sure they were standing in the middle of the path before she looked up at the sky; dark, grey, dreary…

Hermione couldn’t keep the smile off her face from watching Pansy. They were both getting drenched rather quickly, and she knew when they went inside, not even Pansy’s expert hair charms would be able to dry the mess on top of her head. "We’re the only ones crazy enough to be out in this!" Hermione laughed after looking around them and seeing they were the only ones on the path. There were hardly any cars passing by either.

"Good," Pansy smiled and stepped forward and put her hands on Hermione’s cheeks. "All the more reason to get away with this," she said and leaned closer to gently press her lips to Hermione’s, and soon, the rain and the cold didn’t bother either of them anymore.

Ah, Hermione, maybe Pansy likes your rain-wild hair!

I like rascally-looking Marlon and how he and Pansy both grew on Hermione.

Hermione and Pansy's relationship is so sweet! And I really like Pansy's convincing methods ;)

Awh this was a sweet slice of life ficlet of these two. I love the idea of Pansy going out shopping with Blaise (I'm sure he's quite the fashionista). Them kissing in the rain is sweet <3
